Mornington Railway is a heritage broadgauge railway operating in the Mornington Peninsula between Moorooduc and Mornington.

We have both Steam and Diesel heritage broadgauge locomotives and heritage passenger cars.

Runningdays are normally the first three Sundays of each month.

FREIGHT CARRIAGES

Van 5 CV


Built 26/6/1906 by Herbert & Party, Newport as 5DV, a bogie passenger van. About 1910 numbering of all rolling stock was changed and this van became 5CV. Written off 8/4/1982. Came to society sometime prior to 1988, and fitted with simple catering arrangements for use on excursions. Used on passenger trains in summer. Further restoration included a new roof covering in 2000.

Van 257 W

Built 1883 by Bevan & Party as 88A, a six-wheeled 1st class passenger car. Feb 1896 became 244 B a 2nd class passenger car, changing in 1910 to 213Y, but still a 2nd class car. On 1/9/1926 converted to a working sleeper as 257 W. September 1958 modified with a new underframe becoming a 4 wheeled workman's sleeper. Privately owned and on loan to society for restoration. Presently used for storage.

Van 152 W

Built about 1886 a very similar history to 278 W

Van 278 W

Built as 131 AB on 16/4/1886 by Pickles Butly Gang. A six wheeled 1st & 2nd class passenger car. About 1910 became 17 XY, a 1st and 2nd class passenger car. On 18/10/1913 became 383Y, a 2nd class passenger car. 4/12/1926 converted to 278 W and became a workmans sleeper November 1958 provided with a new underframe and became a 4 wheeled sleeper. This work was done at Bendigo Workshops. Off register early 1980's privately owned and on load to the society for restoration. Presently used as a carriage maintenance van.

Van 35 C

Built 1/1/1892 as 37 DD by Australian Rollingstock Co. Spotswood. A bogie Guards Van. 1893 Sanitary Accom fitted. In 1910 it was renumbered 35 C, a bogied passenger van. September 1945 to February 1946 rebuilt at Newport. October 1958 Auto coupled.
3/3/1983 off register. Came to society about 1987. Outside restored and roof weather proofed 2001.

Van 129 VLPY

No history. Used by engine depot. Tool and machinery shop.

Van 604 ZD

Built 19/12/1928 at in New South Wales as 604Z a six-wheeled Guards Van. About 1960 classified as 604 ZP for high speed passenger operation up to 70 m.p.h. 1977 fitted with dual couplings so as to be connected to either an old screw coupling vehicle or an auto coupler.
604ZD was overhauled in 2011 and will be used as an alternative to 20Z

Van 20 ZB

Built as 457 Z on 20/6/1914 at Newport by Rankin & Party a six wheeled Guards Van. July - September 1930 in Newport workshops. November 1937 - February 1938 in Newport Workshops. September 1964 re-classified 457 ZL - long shank coupling. September 1971 in Bendigo Workshops and re-classified to 20 ZB i.e a ballasted wagon suitable for higher speed. No record as to when this came to the society. Probably about 1987. From 2003 used on passenger trains.
20Z was restored in 2010 and is now in use on our regular passenger trains.

Van 582 ZL

Built 3/4/1928 at Newport by Stubbings & Party, as 582 Z. March 1955 Auto coupled. February 1966 became 582 ZL (long shank). Used for storage

Van 586 ZL

No record. Probably similar to 582 ZL Used for storage.

Van 73HD
Van 73 HD Built 24/6/1897 by Baybrook Imperial Co a 4 wheeled Louvre Van. 2/10/1957 became 73 HD for stores & plant use. No further history.
MRPS has more rolling stock either in service or awaiting restoration
